I'm a professional surfer and am in the sun all the time. I use SPF and retina regularly, but I am still worried that my constant sun exposure is going to leave me with prematurely aged skin. Also, over the last few years, my face has thinned drastically. I started looking into the possibility of trying Ultherapy to help stimulate collagen production. Would this be a good treatment for me? I'm worried that it will cause fat loss in my already thin face. What other treatments could be helpful?
Hi and thank you for your question! As you indicated, the number one cause of premature skin aging is the UV from sunlight. As prevention is always better than treatment, please continue with applying high-quality sunblocks (and make sure you are applying it correctly and renewing it as needed). Also, consider other types of UV protection/physical barriers for your face and body if possible. Ultherapy is an excellent rejuvenating treatment, but for most patients, its results emerge primarily as skin tightening vs. volumizing effects. Hence, if you are worried with volume loss in your face, you should consider fillers. Additionally, sun-damaged skin and issues such as sunspots can be treated with lasers and IPL. I hope it helps and good luck!
