Voluma to treat under eye area?

Cosmetic Treatments QuestionsCategory: VolumaVoluma to treat under eye area?
A patient asked 8 years ago
I went to have the area under my eyes treated for circles/tired look and had previously had Belotero used with good results. This time they used Voluma. The results were horrible. My eyes puffed up, even in the corners. She said the swelling would go down but it hasn't, even after 10 days. Why would somebody choose to use Voluma over Belotera in the eye area? I did not ask to have my cheeks or any other area done. What benefit was she hoping to achieve? I see no benefit.

Voluma for Under the Eyes

Hi and thank you for sharing your question here! We can treat under the eyes hollow successfully with the filler and improve the dark circle as well. However, the filler needs to be smooth and "runny" to settle naturally under the eyes. Voluma is a great filler, but it is not a very good choice for under the eyes as it is a very thick filler. At my clinic, I commonly use Belotero or Restylane and recently Volbella (a newer filler) for injections under the eyes. As a highly vascular area, filler injections in under the eyes requires greater level of skill and I highly recommend injections using blunt-end micro cannula for better results. This being said, Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler and it can be dissolved and removed by injection of hyaluronidase. I recommend that you to go back to your physician and discuss options to dissolve the Voluma that you got injected and then later on you can try more suitable fillers. I hope it helps and good luck!
