Daxxify (or Daxi) is a new addition to the family of wrinkle-fighting injection medications such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Newtox. Daxxify is a novel long-lasting peptide-powered anti-wrinkle treatment that is offered at Amoderm in Orange County and comes with the additional convenience of the need for fewer treatment visits.
Many lines and wrinkles across the face and neck are caused (or exacerbated) by contraction of muscles. We use our facial muscles in various facial expressions, but repeated engagement of those muscles will eventually create creases and lines on our skin. The lines are initially dynamic, meaning that they come when the underlying muscles contract and they go away when the muscles relax, but eventually, they become permanent. The good news is that for years, we have been able to treat the dynamic lines (and prevent them from becoming static) and even reduce the appearance of static ones using Botox and other medications in this family such as Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau. What is Daxxify?
Amoderm is pleased to offer Daxxify™, the latest member of the family of neuromodulator medications used to reduce lines and wrinkle by relaxing muscles.Daxi is approved by the FDA for reducing and smoothing out the lines between the eyebrows and frown lines. However, like other members of the Botox family, it can also be used by your doctor to treat other lines and wrinkles in your face such as forehead lines, lines at the corner of eyes (crow’s feet), smoker’s lines and neck lines (platysmal bands) on off-label basis.
What Is the Advantage of Daxxify?
While Daxi is also derived from components of botulinum toxin similar to Botox, it is designed and formulated differently. As a result, Daxxify results tend to last longer than the results achieved by Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau. While the results of treatment with these other medications typically last for 3 months (up to 3-6 months in some patients), the results of treatment with Daxxify can last around 6 months on average (and up to 6-9 months in some). As such, patients treated with Daxi may need fewer treatments and may be able to take longer intervals between their appointments (individual results may vary).
Daxxify offers a significant advantage for patients who would like to see their results lasting longer. As a matter of fact and according to the studies, the vast majority of the patients wish their results would last longer and with Daxxify it can be possible to maintain the lines and wrinkles smoother with as few as 2 treatments per year.
What Makes Daxxify Different?
All medications used to treat fine lines and wrinkles are based on components of botulinum toxin but each medication in this group uses a specific formulation to stabilize the toxin. For Botox, it is human serum albumin (HSA), a protein derived from blood that is added to stabilize it. HSA is also used in Dysport, in addition to a cow’s milk protein to make the medication stable and ready to be used.
In the case of Daxxify, a bovel peptide is used as the stabilizer and hence, it does not contain any human or animal byproducts. This unique formulation allows Daxi to stay active for much longer time and provide longer-lasting results.
Clinical Studies of Daxxify
Daxxify has been studied in a very large clinical trial including over 2400 participants. According to the results of this large study, no serious side effect was reported for the treatment with Daxxify and 96% of the patients treated with Daxi were satisfied with their treatment results. As any other medical treatments, individual results may vary.
What Is the Daxxify Treatment Like?
Similar to Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and Jeuveau, injection of Daxxify is performed using fine sterile needles. The pain and discomfort are mild and minimal and in most patients, additional numbing of skin is not needed. During the visit, Dr. Jafari first performs an exam to determine the needed dose of the medication, and then she proceeds with doing the injections at carefully selected areas to achieve the best results. Following the treatment some redness and swelling are possible burs for most patients, it is very minimal. Given the fine size of the needle and areas of injection, bruising is less common but it might still happen. The muscle-relaxing effects of the medication might start to appear quickly within hours, but in many cases, it might take a few days to appear. Also, during the first few days as muscles are adjusting to the new tone, the results are not final and the patients are advised to allow about two weeks from the time of injections for the results to fully settle in.
What Are the Side Effects of Daxxify?
While in the large clinical study mentioned before Daxxify was overall safe, like all other medical treatments some side effects are possible. Side effects are generally mild and resolve on their own and the most common side effects include bruising, swelling, headache, eyelid drooping, upper respiratory tract infection and increased white blood cell count.
