I have some little bruises where the needle was injected and this morning my face feel painful like a big bruise. Should I massage the lumpy area today to make it even, ice it or wait a few days?
After any filler injections there is the possibility of the swelling and small lump mostly due to small hematoma (localized bleeding) at the area of injection specially if injection has been done with needle (personally I inject most of fillers with micro-cannula and it is almost bruise-free and pain-free and has minimal swelling). I would not recommend to massage the lumpy area. You can put ice compress to help the swelling and bruising as well as applying arnica cream to help a bit. As a rule of thumb, in my clinic I always advise my patients to wait for 2 weeks following the filler injection for the results to settle in and any residual swelling to subside, and then if there are still any concerns about the lump or asymmetry, we schedule them for a follow-up. Of course this does not apply to more serious concerns such as signs or symptoms suggestive
of infection such as tenderness, erythema (redness) and heat, in which case you need to contact your physician immediately and get medical attention for prompt treatment. I hope it helps and good luck! Elham Jafari, MD.
