I'm considering Botox or Dysport. I know there's a slight risk of temporary side effects like ptosis & asymmetry. But is there any chance of any negative aesthetic side effects being long-term or permanent? Since Botox and Dysport last for a short amount of time in your body, I didn't think any side effects would be permanent. But I’ve read a few stories about women who have had longer-term facial changes that lasted longer than 3-4 months. Can it cause long-term or permanent facial changes?

Long-term Facial Changes with Botox

Hi and thank you for your question! The short answer is no, Botox is not expected to cause long-term or permanent changes in the face. This being said, a common phenomenon is that following treatment with Botox and correction of associated issues, some patients might start noticing other issues more than before, and their increased focus on these "new" (but really pre-existing) issues might persist even after the temporary effects of Botox has passed, thinking that Botox has cause long-lasting issues. In such cases, detailed comparison and analysis of before and after pictures can often address the concerns objectively. I hope it helps and good luck!
