Is it possible to get Kybella/Belkyra in neck muscle?

Cosmetic Treatments QuestionsCategory: KybellaIs it possible to get Kybella/Belkyra in neck muscle?
A patient asked 7 years ago
Hi doctors: I had Kybella done 4 weeks ago and the majority of swelling has now gone. However, when I tilt my head back and open my jaw wide there is a clunking noise and tenderness coming from the muscle in my neck on the right side. When my doc injected that area I had a lot of discomfort and it felt very full and odd. Now, there is this strange noise when I open my mouth. It is also lumpy there. Could the doctor have damaged my throat/neck muscles?

Kybella Injection

Hi and thank you for your question! Since the target of Kybella is the fat tissues, it is rare that it ends up in muscles, but it is still a possibility. What you are experiencing could be related to inflammation which could last for a couple of weeks or could be an incidental issue. I highly recommend that you do a follow up with your doctor as he/she is the one who knows where the injections were places and should be able to examine the area and address your concerns. I hope it helps and good luck!
