Is there any risk of ocular damage/eye damage from the protective metal shields that is inserted during fractional co2 laser around the eyes? Have you had any patient who had any kind of damage to the eyes from the protective metal shields? I'm having full face co2 fractional laser with the deka smartxide2 laser the 15th of April.

Risk of Damage from Eye Shields

Hi and thank you for your question! While there is some very small risk of local abrasions with use of eye shields, they are generally very safe and effective in protecting eyes during laser treatments and I highly recommend using them when indicated. As reusable instruments, proper cleaning and disinfecting protocols should be followed to the ensure the safety of patients. I hope it helps and good luck!
