Reinjected after lip filler Infection?

Cosmetic Treatments QuestionsCategory: Lip AugmentationReinjected after lip filler Infection?
A patient asked 7 years ago
In December I had a bacterial infection in my lip (due to unhygenic medical practise). One half of my upper lip turned into an abscess, which was drained early January and then the lip was completely dissolved February. I got my lips redone again in May, and they became infected. Am I prone to infection now or was the filler not dissolved accurately? I am planning to get them done again in September by a cosmetic doctor, would I be wasting my money if another infection may occur?

Reinjecting Lip after Infection

Hi and thank you for your question! Sorry to hear about your experience. Based on what you described, there can be a number of possibilities and you should work with a highly experienced physician to make sure the risk of complications is as low as possible. With filler injections there might be a possibility of bacterial colonization. Was the 2nd infection at the same location (or nearby) as the first one? Were any cultures obtained from either of the infections and if so, was it the same species? Based on your past experience, it is advisable to work with a highly experienced physician and do all the precautions to minimize the risk in future. I hope it helps and good luck!
