Skinvive

Say hi to refreshed, smooth, hydrated and glowing skin with SKINVIVE, a novel FDA-approved hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable treatment, specifically developed to deeply hydrate and improve the quality of the skin!

Introducing SkinVive

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our skin that is responsible for retaining water and maintaining our skin plump and hydrated. As we age, the amount of natural hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases. As a result, our skin is unable to retain as much water as it used to and becomes dehydrated. As a result, the skin looses its natural smoothness and glow and fine lines develop. As the hyaluronic acid loss progresses, the skin loses more and more volume and various recognizable signs of aging emerge.

Various dermal fillers are available to restore and replenish the lost volume in the skin and treat the signs of aging. However, these fillers tend to work more locally by plumbing up the skin in the area of injection. SKINVIVE is a new type of hyaluronic acid restoration treatment developed by Allergan (the company behind Juvederm fillers) that addresses and targets the loss of hyaluronic acid in skin across a larger area of the skin and helps with keeping the skin well-hydrated.

What Makes Skinvive Different from Fillers

Skinvive is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel, but it is not a filler like other members of Juvederm family. Skinvive is the first of its kind, a hyaluronic acid microdroplet injection treatment that is intended to be injected in small dose across a large area of the skin to replenish the hyaluronic acid and improve the quality of skin. Hydration is the corner stone of healthy skin and Skinvive works by improving and boosting the skin hydration.

It is important to distinguish the key difference between Skinvive and hyaluronic acid fillers. While both incorporate hyaluronic acid gel, the hyaluronic acid fillers are intended to immediately volumize and plumb the skin in the injected area by providing volume in a targeted localized manner, while Skinvive is primarily intended to improve the overall quality of the skin across the multiple injection areas by providing hyaluronic acid across a relatively large area. The fillers work more locally, while Skinvive works more widely.

Skinvive improves skin quality: It makes the skin smoother and glowing and increases the skin hydration. Most patients report that their skin “feels” much better following the treatment.

How Is the Treatment with Skinvive Done?

At Amoderm, all cosmetic injections are performed by experienced, licensed physician following complimentary comprehensive consultation. We typically ask you to come 30 minutes earlier than your treatment appointment to get ready for the procedure. During that time, we prepare your skin and apply topical numbing cream for maximal comfort.

Skinvive is injected using Micro-droplet injection technique. Your doctor uses very fine needles to inject the Skinvive gel into the dermis layer of your skin (intradermal injection). The injection is done at multiple sites according to a specific grid-like pattern covering the treatment area. At each injection site, your doctor gently inserts the fine needle to the appropriate depth to reach the dermis and injects a small amount of the Skinvive gel in that area. She then removes the needle and moves on to inject the next adjacent site, until the treatment area is fully covered.

The treatment is typically completed in 10-15 minutes. Considering the multiple sites of injection to cover the treatment areas, most patients typically require at least 2 syringes of Skinvive gel. Patients with more crepey and less smooth skin might require more injections placed more closely and hence more syringes. Additionally, your doctor might recommend more injections around the more dynamic areas of the skin. The recommended number of syringes will be determined and discussed with you by your doctor during your consultation.

Is It Painful and How Is the Downtime?

Skinvive injection is done using very fine needles and following topical numbing. Hence, most patients tolerate the treatment very well with mild to minimal discomfort.

Like all injections, there is always some risk for bruising and swelling but considering the use of fine needles, extensive bruising tends to be less common. Patients might experience some redness and small bumps and lumps at the areas of injection. Most issues resolve within 1-2 weeks following the treatment and the majority of the patients experience no or very little down-time. It is still important to consider and discuss important events such as wedding prior to scheduling your treatment.

What to Expect After the Treatment?

Skinvive works by restoring hyaluronic acid in the skin across the treatment area and providing deep hydration. As such, not much volumizing effect is expected to be seen following the treatment and most patients will see improvements in terms of quality of their skin in the treated areas. Like most other injections, it might take 1-2 weeks for the treatment results to fully settle and any swelling or bruising to resolve. According to the results of the clinical trials, by the 1-month mark after the treatment, most patients report improved skin smoothness, reduced fine lines, improved skin glow, refreshed and better hydrated skin and overall improved skin health. Most notably, patients commonly report that their skin “feels” much better; it is not just about looking in the mirror (as Skinvive is not intended to add volume) but patients commonly report that they love the way their skin feels following the treatment. Following the treatment and according to the clinical studies, results last for up to 6 months. Individual patient’s results might vary.
